A Fresh Start for Carroll Park: Fort Worth CLT Brings Attainable Homeownership to South Fort Worth

We’re honored to be featured in the Fort Worth Report for our leadership in transforming Carroll Park, a 1950s-era housing village in south Fort Worth, into an affordable homeownership community.

In partnership with the City of Fort Worth, the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, and the Housing Channel, the Fort Worth Community Land Trust is redeveloping 15 acres of historic duplex, townhomes, and single homes to create lasting pathways to ownership. The first major redevelopment, offering beautifully renovated homes at prices starting at $135,000, with the land held in trust to ensure long-term affordability for generations to come.

Executive Director Becky Gligo shared our mission:

“The cheapest housing is the one that already exists. We are working to renovate these buildings. It’s a nice rehab project.”

The redevelopment will restore 54 of the original 142 units, preserving their mid-century charm while updating them with modern energy-efficient systems and open floor plans. Future homeowners will benefit from affordable resale protections, ensuring homes remain within reach for generations to come, down payment assistance up to $25,000, and a community-centered model that supports financial stability and neighborhood connection.

As Gligo noted, Carroll Park is more than a development, it’s an investment in housing stability and generational wealth for Fort Worth families.
